A collection of things on my mind, things I have noticed lately, and a semi-updated running commentary on how strange life is in general...

Wish I was "there", instead of "here" right now...

There's a blue rocking chair
Sittin' in the sand
Weathered by the storms
And well oiled hands

It sways back and forth
With the help of the winds
It seems to always be there
Like an old trusted friend

I've read a lot of books
Wrote a few songs
Looked at my life
Where it's going, where it's gone

If you thought I was slow before...

Well life has actually picked up a notch, instead of me being a slouch when it concerns this blogging thing.

Wedding season is officially over and my weekends are officially un-planned. I don't want that to come across as not being appreciative of an invite or speculative of me wanting to attend friends and family weddings, not at all. On the contrary, I had a blast at each event and I got to spend time with my best friends and very cool family. However, with the exception of the wedding in Virginia, the weekends were hectic in terms of grandparents watching the boy, travel, and all the associated details.

(thanks J, I'm swiping your pics. :D )

Again, wouldn't trade any of it for the world, but my point here is it will be good to be home for the next couple of weekends. Get the house in order. Hang out with friends in our own town :D.

Just prior to the Baxter wedding, we replaced our scraggly landscaping in the front of our house with new sod and it looks great. This weekend will be the first high cut (can't hack it all down this soon) with the new lawn mower. We're really pleased that things took as well as they did and the front of the house looks 100% better.

The Boy turned two on the 27th and we went out and got ice cream with friends.

He's so big! Hard to imagine only two short years ago...

Whew! OK, long post, I'll try to put more up soon.

Howdy, all.

Well, I know I'm awful slow with updates, but bear with me. I'm just as slow in real life. :D

I turn 32 this week (go me!) and truthfully, I'm pleased with the way things are going right now. I have a good job, nice stuff, a great wife, and a rambunctious toddler bent on exploring and taking the world apart so he can examine it.

Reflecting back on the last year, I can't say this has been a year of great change. It has however, brought steady progress on a number of fronts. Although I've never been a huge fan of slow and steady, it appears to be the speed of things as of late.

Next year is shaping up to be more of the same, with the big gear-up to 2010. That year will be unavoidably busy with some big decisions. After the Boy's 3rd birthday in '09, the discussion will begin about adding to the family, as we've agreed on that being a nice window of opportunity age-wise. Our mortgage is up for review and we'll be makign the decision to re-finance or try and upgrade. We'll have one of our largest student loans and a car paid off. So yea, we'll have a TON to do that year.

But for right now, I'm going to hug the Wife and Boy and just enjoy the quiet. :D

p.s. Happy August B-Days to the rest of the crew. You know who you are.

MIA

Ok, you can beat me with a wet noodle. I suck at this whole "keeping people informed" thing. I don't call my mom, either. Though, I suppose, if you knew my mom, you might understand that one. :D j/k

Ok, the quick round-about:

The Boy is 21 months old and cranking along with life. His current favorite things are coloring, Elmo, and delaying bed time by claiming he has to go potty.

We have moved into the toddler bed because someone-who-will-go-unmentioned practiced the 3/4 pike with a 1/2 twist off the top of his crib a few weeks ago. So now we have a big-boy bed (complete with Elmo sheets, thanks to Mommy), but now bed-time is a new struggle, as we can leave the bed and walk right up to our door gate and howl down the hallway.

Good times.

The job is ok. My boss is annoying, but I get paid enough to ignore him.

That's about it. Oh, the Girl and I are headed to the Chicagoland area this weekend to visit my sister and brother-in-law. We can't wait, especially sinced this is the first trip to their new house. My mom will be watching the Boy, hopefully she follows my directions. We'll see.

time flies...

Indeed things seem to be moving at break-neck speed lately. I have graduated to Official Fire-Fighter here at my office, which means I am the one most frequently receiving the "OMG, it's broken and we have a client on the way here in 10 minutes" or the "OMG, the whole system is down" notifications. Nice to know that people have recognized me as a problem-solver. Bad thing is there are no longer any freebies. Seems like very problem lately has been a complicated mix of computer wizardry, human error and good, old-fashioned timing.

On the home front, things have picked up as well. The boy is excited for the nice weather, as it provides him with additional play opportunities outside. He has a TON of energy which must be burned off on a daily basis or it may be expressed inside the house in the form of exploring, finding, examining, and attempting to test the durability of any number of toys or household items.

He has a hold of a great number of words which have now been properly been associated with their definitions, instead of simple sounds. He can now correctly identify his shoes, pants, coat, shirt, a ball, the outside, and lots more. He has started to babble together sentences which is cool because we can now teach him to turn the words he knows into lots more.

Now the bad part. Along with "no" the boy has officially started to resist simple instructions. Even ones like eating. He may be hungry, but if he's decided to nto eat, that's the end of it. We also had a biting incident at day care the other day. The day care manager let me know that all the kids in the class seems to be picking it up (apparently due to one particularly evil child in the class, though she declines to name who) so I'm hopeful this was the exception, not the rule.

I think Mother Theresa said it best when she said "I know God would not give me anything I couldn't handle. I just wish sometimes He didn't trust me so much."

so much for "back to normal"

Well I posted that life in general was straightening out into a predicatble pattern. The boy must have caught wind of that and decided that things were too calm.

His favorite game is now "I'm lonely at 2 AM." (funny, I remember playing that game in college. Totally different rules tho.)

A close second is "I know you're trying to feed me now, but I would really like to eat in a hour when you're trying to get me in the bath."

Somewhere on the list (I'm guessing a distant 324th place) is I'm tired, well fed, and I would like to sleep through the night.

Walking zombie, anyone?

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Just a brief note here to wish everyone a happy and healthy St. Patty's and rest of the year, as well.

This year is kind of low-key for me, but I did manage to get out for lunch today for a pint of Guinness and some lovely Irish stew. Tonight, we're taking a crack at a recipe for Shepherd's Pie, so wish us luck.

Enjoy a pint (or more!), but most importantly, get home safe.

Erin Go Bragh!
