Sick Baby part III... just when you thought it was safe to attend day care...

Well, the saga continues. The ear infection and pinkeye eventually diminished, but did not completely go away. So the docs put SuperBoy on a new, more powerful penicillin derivative. Blammo! Three days of 105 + degree fevers followed by a whole body rash and swelling. Needless to say, either the virus mutated and reacted to the penicillin, he's allergic to penicillin, or it was Kryptonite. I vote for # 3.

So we headed for the ER on Saturday. The boy got fixed up with some cortico-steroids and some pain meds. We got him home and he's comfortable but he was in rough shape. We're keeping him in oatmeal/ aveno baths to sooth the itching and he's taking regular doses of Benedryl. He's getting by, but man we were scared for a while.

The thing that gets me fired up is the fact that every doc we saw was all about "wait and see". It got to the point where he was so swollen that his eyes could barely open and he was constantly uncomfortable. It shouldn't have gotten to that point. I mean, if we hadn't brought him to the ER, he could have swollen up so bad that his breathing was restricted. I agree with not overmedicating a kid, but there comes a point where I think modern medicine should intervene. I mean, what's the point of going to the docs 4 times in the last two weeks so some toolbox could look at him and tell us to "wait and see"?

In any case, the boy is better and on the road to recovery (hopefully). We're scrambling to get things situated, considering Jen only worked a day and a half last week and I took off times as well. Our vacation time is dwindling rapidly. Both of our bosses have been OK to this point, but there's a limit to their understanding regarding making up time and I think I'm pressing my bosses'. I'll update as I know more.
