A collection of things on my mind, things I have noticed lately, and a semi-updated running commentary on how strange life is in general...

Sick baby... yuck.

So we had our 1st true baby scare of his young life this past weekend. We were due to attend my step-brother's wedding the weekend of the 12th in upstate NY where everyone was going to see SuperBoy and throw around the standard look-how-big-you-ares and I-miss-yous. Unfortunately, Tuesday the 8th was not a good day. SuperBoy started the day a little fussy, but he does that sometimes, so I didn't really pay attention. Everything seemed normal and he ate a full breakfast. Got a call from day care at 10:30 or so with the news that he had a 102 degree temperature. Standard procedure is to pick the lad up and head to the pediatrician. This started a 5-day odyssey of getting up in the middle of the night, frequent fussiness, trips to the docs, and general unpleasantness for SuperBoy. His temp eventually went as high as 103.5 for a period of time.

We were so looking forward to the trip to see everyone, but a few things played into us missing the trip:
1) SuperBoy was starting on the downside of the sickness, but still had a mild fever the day we were scheduled to leave
2) People would want to hold, touch, tickle, and generally handle the boy, who was in quite the foul mood after not eating or sleeping well the last few days (come to think of it, no one in the house ate or slept well)
3) Past car rides have disrupted his system a bit. General crankiness and such. Not sure what being sick in addition to that would have caused.
4) The docs did not have a specific diagnosis and still don't. They all chalked it up to "some sort of virus". All of the basic tests came back negative, so they were a bit in the dark. **side note** DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE AS BIG A PROBLEM WITH THAT AS I DO????? There was a doc or two that I seriously felt like cornering and threatening a severe beating. Give me something to work with!!!

All of which ultimately lead us to skip the travel. Most people know I like to have a certain amount of time to myself, but I was really looking forward to this trip. We're trying to fit another trip in sometime, but it's difficult, considering our schedules and the other travel we have planned for June and July. Combine all of this with the fact that SuperBoy was the sickest we'd every seen him and we were heartbroken.

Good news is he seems to have mostly gotten over whatever bothered him, but man, were we worried.
